Barnaby joyce greens council bushfire victims The government must stop threatening bushfires and help the states find solutions in response to wildfires in this year’s budget, the Greens say.
Brydon Wright at The Australian reports that the budget could lead to the abolition of the $1.4 billion Queensland Climate Change Authority (QCCA) that works with Australia to implement climate change policy. It says the state will also lose funding to the $30 million Tasmanian Climate Change Authority and $80 million allocated by WA for climate change and land conservation projects.
Wright says the loss of state funding would have a negative impact on the climate change resilience of regions such as West Australia and Queensland.
Greens’ Climate Justice Campaign co-founder Sarah Anderson says the budget would further close the gap between rich and poor, and would create uncertainty about the capacity of rich to meet the world’s climate change commitments.
The budget also includes $1.6 billion for the Tasmanian Health and Social Justice Service (TASJS) and $534 million for the Queensland Health Insurance Board, both of which have a heavy role in funding for mental health.
“The budget apronxignores the very urgent need for health and social welfare services in regions suffering significant health and social impacts from extreme climate change,” Anderson said in a statement.
She said the proposed cuts to TASJS and QCIBs would have a “crucial impact on a region of one million people”.
The budget cuts QMC, WA and NSW funding to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fight global warming.
The Australian, an independent news m바카라agazine, reported earlier this week that a new federal climate change strategy was being developed that would see $30 billion of funding for regional and community programs, but $30 million cut from other funding.
Wright says that in an interview with Reuters that this would be a “dangerous reduction” for regional health and social justice programs.
The budget also includes funding for the Federal Commissioner of the Environment’s Regional Plan for the Northern Territory (NRTN).
Greens environment spokesman James Shaw said the budget was worse than the budget it proposed in last year’s budget.
“We would oppose these cuts as part of a bigger agenda for climate change and the budget was worse,” Shaw said.
Hansard sp바카라eaker Bob Katter, another advocate, has called on Prime Minister Tony Abbott to pull federal funding out of “climate change programs” such as regional greenhouse gas emission
